The Barolo Chapel. The last eclipse of the millennium. The Chapel of Barolo by Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett
Set in the vineyards of the Italian Piedmont, the Barolo Chapel is an example of renovation, reconstruction, and rejuvenation. Once a disused shell, the small chapel was transformed in the 1990s by artist friends Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett. The former made colourful interventions on the exterior walls of the structure, while the latter was responsible for its more sober but equally colourful interior. These two operations interact with the building as if it were a true and total work of art, bringing together the artists respective fields. This book tells the story of the chapels transformation, a legend about art and friendship, lovingly portrayed in original sketches, plans, and photographs.
