Der Schweizer Fotograf Joël Tettamanti hat seit seiner Einzelausstellung Local Studies 2009 in der Fotostiftung Schweiz kontinuierlich an Renommee gewonnen. Arbeiten für internationale Zeitschriften und global tätige Firmen bringen ihn an bekannte und unbekannte Orte der Welt, denen er sich vom Zufall geleitet fotografisch annähert. Tettamanti arbeitet in seinen Bildstrecken die Ebenen heraus, die jedem Ort seine spezifische Identität verleihen. Von der unberührten Landschaft über die Grenzen zwischen Natur und Zivilisation bewegt er sich bis zu den Zentren von Agglomerationen, dringt zu den Details vor, wo scheinbar rational konstruierte Zivilisation auf die Formen der Natur trifft. Die Räume, die Tettamanti in seinen Fotografien erschliesst, muten oft surreal an; sie geben preis, wie absurd vom Menschen gemachte Strukturen wirken können.

The world as an apparently surreal place – pictures of a cross-cultural journey
Since his 2009 solo exhibition Local Studies at Fotostiftung Schweiz, Swiss Joël Tettamanti has gradually built up his reputation as a photographer. Assignments for international magazines and global company groups take him to known and unknown places all over the world, which he more or less coincidentally approaches as an artist. In his oeuvre, Tettamanti focuses on places that give each location its specific identity. Moving from unspoiled countryside across the borders between nature and civilisation to the centres of agglomeration, he explores the details where seemingly rationally constructed civilisation encounters natural forms. The places Tettamanti reveals in his photographs seem somehow surreal; they show just how absurd man-made structures can appear.
Worldwide unique photographic book project
In the era of digitalization the book rediscovers the unique qualities of print, and combines the means of traditional book production with print-on-demand in one and the same book.
