Das Arbeitende Konzert / The Working Concert

Das Arbeitende Konzert (AK) ist eine performative Installation, die sich um Konzerte und ihre Repräsentation als kreative Medien dreht, wobei Konzerte nicht als neutrale Rahmung verstanden werden, sondern als Form künstlerischen Ausdrucks und Dispositive oder Apparate der Kritik. Das Arbeitende Konzert (Revision I–VII) wurde mitsamt seinem Entstehungsprozess in den Buchraum verlagert. Die Revisionen wurden aufgeführt am Teatro Garibaldi in Palermo, im Künstlerhaus Bethanien, auf dem Aedes Network Campus und in den Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin, allesamt Orte, die wie eine Antithese zu den Eigenschaften wirken, die mit Institutionen des Konzertbetriebs traditionell verbunden sind. Da diese Konzerte als Ausstellungen angelegt waren, mussten zahlreiche Aspekte des Konzerts – Installation, Ausstellung, Publikation, öffentliche Veranstaltung, Performance, Marketing, Beschilderung und die Aufnahme durch die Besucher – neu gedacht werden. Der Band enthält Partituren, Dokumente, Fotografien und Konzepttexte, die in den letzten 15 Jahren die Grundlage von AK waren.
Christopher Dell (geb. 1965) arbeitet in Berlin als Musiker, Komponist, Theoretiker für Urban Design und Architektur sowie als Künstler.
Das Arbeitende Konzert (AK) / The Working Concert is a performative installation work focused on concerts and their representations as creative media, whereby concerts are understood not as neutral frames but as a form of artistic expression and as critical dispositifs or apparatuses. The AK ’s Revisions I–VII and the process of their creation have been relocated to the book space. The Revisions were shown at Teatro Garibaldi in Palermo and Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Aedes Network Campus, and Emil Berliner Studios in Berlin, all of which were antithetical to the ingrained characteristics associated with concert institutions. The configuration of these concerts as exhibitions involved rethinking all the various aspects of the concert as installation, exhibition, publication, public event, performance, marketing, public signage, and audience reception. The book contains scores, documentary material, photographs, and concept texts that have driven and/or led to the AK over the last fifteen years.
