Always the Same Faces. Aus dem Alltag philippinischer Seeleute

Zwei Jahre lang begleiteten die Fotografinnen Kaja Grope und Karin Kreuder philippi-nische Seeleute in ihrem Alltag über Kontinentalgrenzen hinaus. Der Katalog präsentiert die aus diesen Begegnungen entstandene gleichnamige Werkserie. In poetischen, zugleich wirklichkeitsnahen Bildern zeichnen sie ein Bild der Identität moderner Seeleute und führen den Betrachter ins Innere der mächtigen Containerschiffe. Der Alltag der Männer wird dabei mit viel Respekt und Empathie porträtiert. In atmosphärischen Sequenzen vermitteln die Arbeiten das Bild eines Doppellebens zwischen zehnmonatiger Einsamkeit auf See und gefeiertem Heldentum in der Heimat.

For two years the photographers Kaja Grope and Karin Kreuder observed the day-to-day life of Philippine sailors as they travelled from country to country. The catalogue presents the eponymous series of works that developed out of their encounters. In poetic and at the same time realistic images they paint a picture of the identity of modern seafarers and take the viewer inside the mighty container ships. They portray the everyday life of the men with great respect and empathy. In atmospheric sequences, the works convey the picture of a double life between ten months of isolation at sea and celebrated heroism at home.
