Les gens d’Uterpan (Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet): Imposteurs - A Monographic Treaty

Public presentation by Franck Apertet

As part of their long-term artist residency at the CAC Brétigny, a center for contemporary art in a suburb of Paris, Pierre Bal-Blanc, the director of the CAC, invited Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet (les gens d’Uterpan) to think and jointly realize a monographic publication about their work since 2005. The project Imposteurs is the result.
Published in an edition of 40 limited copies, printed on one continuous piece of fabric and distributed through a protocol of acquirement, the publication gives access to a number of mechanisms related to the pieces that it documents. The publication contains critical commentaries and notes by writers, actors and witnesses from the fields of dance and visual arts, as well as unpublished materials from the production process of the works and the organization of les gens d'Uterpan as a dance and performance company.
To present the publication, Franck Apertet will install and manipulate a copy of Imposteurs at Pro qm.
The work of Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet (les gens d’Uterpan) examines the methods of action and the conventions of representation that organize the practice and reception of dance. They have produced works that go beyond the limited frameworks of dance and fine arts while contributing in reforming the field of experience within these disciplines. Works in the past included exhibitions and performances at MAXXI (Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo) Rome, Museion, Bozen, Tate Modern, London and the 6th Berlin Biennal for Contemporary Art, Berlin.
