Activist Urbanism for a Solidary City
How can we imagine and construct a solidary city, a city against the state, a gentle city? How can an activist urbanism re-create the city as a space of multiplicity, of refuge, respite, reproduction, arrival, gathering?
These questions will be discussed on the base of two books recently published by transversal.at: The Soft City by Kike España and The City as a Space of Solidarity, edited by Niki Kubaczek and Monika Mokre.
Kike España is based in Málaga and works at Suburbia bookshop and is one of the editors of Subtextos. Participates in the cultural and social center La Invisible and in Fundación de los Comunes. PhD in Urban Theory.
Niki Kubaczek is a sociologist, activist and publisher based in Vienna. He is a member of the editorial boards of transversal texts (transversal.at), of the eipcp, of kritnet - Network for Critical Border Regime and Migration Research as well as of the council of the section for racism and migration research of the Austrian Association of Sociology.
Monika Mokre is a political scientist at the Institute of Culture Studies and Theatre History of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna and chairwoman of eipcp. She works as an academic and an activist in the field of asylum and migration.

Aktivistischer Urbanismus für eine solidarische Stadt
Wie können wir eine solidarische Stadt, eine Stadt gegen den Staat, eine sanfte Stadt imaginieren und schaffen? Wie kann ein aktivistischer Urbanismus die Stadt zu einem Raum der Vielfalt, der Zuflucht, der Rast, der Reproduktion, der Ankunft, der Zusammenkunft machen?
Diese Fragen werden anhand von zwei Büchern diskutiert, die kürzlich bei transversal.at erschienen sind: Die sanfte Stadt von Kike España und Die Stadt als Stätte der Solidarität, herausgegeben von Niki Kubaczek und Monika Mokre.
Kike España lebt in Málaga, arbeitet im Buchladen Suburbia und als eine*r der Herausgeber*innen von Subtextos. Aktivist des kulturellen und sozialen Zentrums La Invisible und der Fundación de los Comunes. PhD in urbaner Theorie.
Niki Kubaczek ist Soziologe, Aktivist und Verleger und wohnt in Wien. Er ist Mitglied der Redaktion von transversal texts, des eipcp, von kritnet - Netzwerk für kritische Grenzregime- und Migrationsforschung sowie des Sektionsrat für Rassismus- und Migrationsforschung der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Soziologie.
Monika Mokre ist Politikwissenschaftlerin am Institut für Kulturwissenschaften und Theatergeschichte der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften in Wien und Vorsitzende des eipcp. Sie ist als Wissenschaftlerin und politische Aktivistin im Bereich Asyl und Migration tätig.
